Addie vs. DIY (Buy vs. Build)
Using AI to launch and manage ad campaigns has never been easier. Building an AI agent that makes the same decisions an experienced B2B marketer would make is a completely different challenge.
You could probably get your favorite AI tool to build campaigns for you with just a few hours of work. So why pay for Addie?
Let’s address the elephant in the room.
You can absolutely get Claude, ChatGPT, Grok, or your AI coding tool of choice to build LinkedIn and Google campaigns for you.
That’s part of the reason so many AI marketing tools are popping up. Building something that automates campaign creation has never been easier.
The truth is, most of Addie’s value is in what happens after those campaigns are launched. We want to make your job easier by building them for you, but that’s not why you should buy.
And there’s a massive difference between software that does things and software that consistently does the right things.
And when your ad budget is on the line, that difference really matters.
“Don’t mistake activity for achievement”
This is one of my favorite quotes, and it perfectly describes where we are with AI marketing tools today.
It’s remarkably easy to build an agent that takes actions. But an AI agent isn’t valuable because it can take action. It’s valuable if it can make the decisions an expert would have made.
That’s what we built Addie to do.
Consider this example:
You’re running two campaigns. One targeting enterprise accounts and another targeting mid-market companies.
Your mid-market campaign generates leads for 70% less than your enterprise campaign.
Most AI agents will look at those results and decide to shift your budget toward the mid-market campaign.
Great! Your cost per lead is down 70%.
Except those enterprise leads are worth 10x more in pipeline. You’ve just sacrificed your most valuable prospects.
Now imagine how much worse it gets when AI tools are making hundreds of judgement calls like this every day in your account.
We built the optimization engine first.
Our founding team spent years managing B2B ad accounts, studying everything from bid management and keyword selection to custom Conversion API integrations.
When we launched Addie, we’d spent months turning that experience into a proprietary machine learning engine designed to understand your customers, anticipate campaign performance, and make better optimization decisions.
At first, that’s all Addie did. We had built the engine to a Ferrari, but not the car. It was powerful, but customers still had to figure out what to do with it.
So we started building campaign creation and the rest of the platform around it.
The point is, campaign building was never the difficult part of what we set out to accomplish.
And then there’s maintaining what you’ve built.
Let’s say you build your own AI ad agent. Great, now you’re responsible for it.
That means maintaining integrations, keeping up with changes to Google and LinkedIn, debugging problems, and continually improving the logic behind its decisions.
And every time you discover something it should be doing differently, you’ve got more work to do.
It’s easy to underestimate how much time you’ll spend maintaining the system you built to save yourself time in the first place.
With Addie, that’s our job. We maintain and improve the technology so you can spend your time actually marketing your business.
We’re not promising you an infallible AI marketer.
There’s one other thing worth addressing.
You could build an agent that autonomously executes every instruction you give it. But should you trust it to make every kind of decision?
An AI agent that never asks questions, never needs your input, and understands every nuance of your business doesn’t exist for practically any job in any industry.
I’m certainly not asking you to believe we’ve built that for B2B advertising.
We’d love to sell you that story. It would certainly make our marketing easier.
But it wouldn’t be true.
We’re building Addie to handle the 90% of work AI can do exceptionally well, while keeping you involved in the decisions that actually require your expertise.
The goal isn’t to replace your judgment. It’s to make that judgment go a lot further.
So, should you build or buy?
If you want to automate a few repetitive tasks or experiment with AI, absolutely build it.
But if you want an AI teammate you can trust… one that understands your marketing goals, makes intelligent decisions, and manages your ad spend without becoming another project you have to maintain, that’s what we built Addie for.
You bring the strategy and expertise. We bring the technology to execute on it.
